Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture (B. Sc. Arch.)

Overview

A unique mix of skills are required for the suitable candidate.

Creative Design skills

Creative Design skills are at the heart of the architect’s abilities, whether creating a unique tool, special machinery, or designing a building. The successful architect must provide accurate calculations to back up their ideas, with form and function blended with elegance. Designing cutting-edge buildings that innovatively incorporate aesthetics, safety, and design makes understanding software like computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) a vital part of the architect’s knowledge base.

Math and science skills

Architectural design has a good match with strong mathematical and scientific skills, including geometry, algebra, engineering, programming, and physics. Skills like math and science are necessary for understanding how and why selective designs and ideas may or may not work before completion. Understanding the theory and history of building design, and building materials are part of the basic foundation of a successful Architect.

Analytical and problem-solving skills:

    • Knowledge of equations for calculating the potential for success of your design
    • Understanding the interpretation of building codes
    • Familiarity with legal requirements
    • Grasp visualization of a product design
    • Skillful presentation to a multiple-discipline team
    • Adept problem-solving abilities

Communication and Team skills

The successful architecture major will effectively communicate ideas to team members. Communication is a vital part of the skill set needed. The architect will work with teams consisting of multiple disciplines for complex projects.

Graduates of this field enjoy high employability. Its broad education base encourages the development of unique skillsets that readily transfer to careers outside of the field of architecture.

DEGREES

The Bachelor of Visual and Media Arts program emphasizes the development of a professional practice in artistic creation. The Bachelor of Visual and Media Arts student creates unique and original works in current and contemporary art. They can also continue their studies at the second cycle in the Master of Visual Arts program.

The additional training in drama integrated into the program is indicated on the teaching certificate. The skills developed during the baccalaureate also prepare students to work in cultural and social environments.

The Master of Visual Arts program offers students the opportunity to engage in critical reflection and deepening their practice over a two-year timeframe.

Open to all disciplines in visual arts and media arts, whether emerging or not, we value the hybridity of approaches to develop the creative autonomy necessary to register the achievements of our students in the artistic and cultural environment. Students enrolled in the program have a unique place of work, le Roulement à Billes, located a few steps from the School of Art. These centers form a dynamic ecosystem that offers students opportunities for dissemination, internships, awards, and scholarships.
