[FPHI] Faculty of Philosophy

Overview

“Love of wisdom”

The Faculty of philosophy prepares students in several areas of knowledge from figures of contemporary philosophy, and through ongoing study of great authors and basic texts of the philosophical tradition and modern philosophy.

“Philosophy” comes from Greek words meaning “love of wisdom” and teaches critical thinking, analytical reading, expansive writing, and logical questions. It uses these skills to understand the way we describe the world, and our place within it.

Many of our students combine studying philosophy with that of other disciplines. This faculty is committed to a participatory style of teaching. The tools taught by philosophy are beneficial to further education, and in future employment.

PROGRAMS

DEGREES

During your studies in philosophy, you will acquire a solid training both in the field of the history of philosophy and in the various disciplines of philosophical knowledge. You will thus be introduced to the major currents of thought that have shaped our understanding of the problems and fundamental questions on knowledge and culture, human action and its purposes, politics, aesthetics, etc. Your training will also give you the opportunity to discover the main contemporary developments in philosophy.

To do a certificate in philosophy is to take the equivalent of a year to think about a few fundamental questions.

This program aims at the appropriation of philosophical questioning and research methods that will allow you to deepen your knowledge of the work of an author, a current of thought or a theme.

This program will give you the opportunity to conduct major research in a stimulating environment. It prepares for an academic career, but also for the exercise of various functions which require the capacity to consider, in an autonomous way, complex questions requiring a broad and deep vision. It will allow you, among other things, to develop an extraordinary skill to write elaborate texts, clearly and methodically presenting original results.
